How likely is it to dislocate your knee cap while snowboarding?

My friend is going snowboarding for her first time, and she has really bad knees. Her knee caps are easily dislocated due to stretched out ligaments. Do you think snowboarding is too dangerous for her?

i went snowboarding for my first time today and i fell a LOT on my knees most ly head on into the ground as if kneeling. but no twisting of the knee. i think she will be fine
if she’s gonna be twisting a lot, falling a bunch on her knees, or gets completely owned in the knee by something, it could end up badly
Is snowboarding too dangerous for her? No. Does it pose SOME danger to her? Yes, of course, especially since she has a weak knee. FYI, your main concern here is not the snow, but rather the hard ice that can sometimes form under the snow. But this can be easily solved. Just get a decent knee-pad (the ones you use for skateboarding and stuffs) from walmart, that will protect her knee very well. Just wear it properly under the pants.
For myself, I use the volleyball knee pad, and that does the trick for me. Never really feel the impact if I fall on my knees. The skateboard knee-pads should offer even better protections.
I think your friend should just try it out, and try hitting her knee to a hard surface. If she don’t feel a thing, chances are she won’t feel a thing when it hits ice. Hope you and her have great fun snowboarding!
